Milestone #2: Audiovisual Prototype
Hey you! Don't like Brussels Sprouts? Despise the concept of a hot dog wiener? Than this is the game for you! Control Tetris-like pieces as you maneuver around deadly sprouts and hot dogs wieners. Race against the clock in order to finish the level while the platforms you place down disappear beneath your cube feet. Do you have the guts to play with your food?
Controls:
A to move left, D to move right
Space - Jump
Enter - Freeze and create Tetris Pieces
Left and Right Arrow Keys - Move Tetris Piece
Up Arrow - Rotate 90 degrees
Down Arrow - Speed up Tetris Piece
I didn't really have any idea for the art style, to be honest. I guess I was thinking about early flash games where the art style was sub par at best. Since it also looks a little childish, I guess it also fits well with the art style of a child. Other than that, no real inspiration in particular.
I guess the simplicity of the drawings make it look childish and such. Since you are playing as a cookie trying to enter the mouth of a child while avoiding brussel sprouts and hot dogs, I would say that the art style is goofy overall.
I think that the most challenging aspect was trying to find a style to begin with. I was so focused on trying to make the game at least decent that I didn't really stop to think about what I should do for the art style. I do kind of enjoy the art style, as it not only looks childish but it also looks like an old flash game. Finding the right audio, as well as adding the audio to begin with, was a challenge.
